Everything but...

Well, still no luck on the winter front. I think I've seen about 18 flakes so far. So here's another shot from the fall. I don't know what struck me about this particular sink, other than it was on the back porch of a business. So that's not usual I guess.

Lil' leaf

Yeah, I know it's essentially winter. But I haven't seen more than a few flakes of snow, so some holdover autumn pictures will have to do for now. : )

As the cold eases its way in, I find myself wishing I had daily access to one of these. : (

Railroad crossing

I've had a bit of a dry spell since late summer. Not really feeling any inspiration. So I forced myself to get out there and shoot. I'm glad I did, as I got some decent stuff. This is from one of my old standbys - the Delaware and Raritan Canal State Park. This is near the Millstone Bridge in Kingston.

Civil War experiment

Last weekend we visited a Civil War re-enactment near Lambertville, NJ. The turnout wasn't that great and it was pretty damn hot, but I did get some decent shots. I took the opportunity to try out a new technique for making one of the photos look "genuine." For comparison, I've included the shot in splendid color.

Horse scene

I hadn't planned to make this an artsy-fartsy shot, but the original image quality wasn't so hot. So using my trusty Photoshop plugins, I created this.

Bleeding Hearts

No, not those kind of bleeding hearts - the flower kind. Specifically, a nice example found at the Frelinghuysen Arboretum back in May.

Something a little on the artsy side - also taken at Cape Cod.

Taken from the shore of Cape Cod Bay in Eastham, if memory serves.

Coast Guard Station - Eastham, MA

The caption pretty much explains this one. It was taken in the middle of the day, hence the slightly washed-out look.

Calling all smartypantses

As easy as hosting my photoblog on Blogger is, the technical limitations involved have become readily apparent. At present, I am trying to find a way to divide my uploaded photos into categories on Blogger. That way, for example, if you (or I) want to browse all my flower photos, they are all just one click away. The current Blogger system of archiving posts based on what month they were published is rather useless, unless you really want to read backward through my entire posting history to find something specific. Not that I would discourage that, of course.

So, if anyone out there has any suggestions, lay 'em on me!

Any guesses as to what this is?

Peek-A-Boo!

This was taken today at the Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk. Not sure what kind of fish this is to be honest. And for a Friday afternoon there were a LOT more kids there than I expected!

Spring Buds

Another shot from my April 1 trip to the arboretum. I am much indebted for the frame on this picture to the wonderful frame script available at this page.

Skunk Cabbage

Also from the arboretum. It smelled OK to me; although to be honest, I didn't exactly get close and take a big whiff.

The Lateness of the Hour

Sundial located in the garden area of the arboretum. I tried this in color and B&W, and decided that the color version was more appealing due to the warmness of the sunlight. Unfortunately that same sunlight caused a loss of detail on the right side of the sundial, but I recovered as much as I could in Photoshop.

Oh, and I appropriated the title from an old Twilight Zone episode.

Spring has sprung!

This past winter was pretty mild in New Jersey, but I'm still glad to see the first signs of spring. Around here, one of the first signs of the season is the abundance of daffodils. This lovely specimen was shot at the Hunterdon County Arboretum in Clinton Township.

Harder! Harder!!!

Tonight was Open House night for the Plainfield Curling Club, so the missus and I stopped by for our first on-ice experience. I'm here to tell you, it's harder than it looks. Although I am happy to report that my butt is bruise-free.

Cape May in March, Part 3

Had I arrived a few minutes earlier, the sunset probably would have been much more dramatic. Oh well, such is life. Still, I think it came out pretty well.

King of Beers

I thought I'd take a quick break from shots of New Jersey's natural beauty to a shot of...well, you get the idea. Thanks to the magic of Photoshop, even a piece of trash can look appealing ('appealing' being a relative term here).

Cape May in March, Part 2

Taken on the same beach as the previous photo, probably about 20 feet away.

Cape May in March, Part 1

One of the nice things about travelling to Cape May in March is that you don't have to avoid any crowds on the beach. Or any place for that matter.

The idea behind this shot is simple - I set the camera on the sand and shot.

Icy Leaves

If the color on this appears a bit drab, it's because the leaves were lying (laying? Where's my grammar book when I need it!) underneath a thin layer of ice.

Storm of the Century!!!! Well, of the year anyway.

Crap, I knew it was too early to hope for a winter without any major storms.
